Fellowship Baptist Church believes that music is moral, and can be used to glorify God or gratify the flesh. Because God is holy, music must meet God’s standard of holiness in order to please Him (Is. 6:3). The primary purpose for which God created music is to glorify Him. Satan’s goal is to counterfeit true Christian music in order to deceive Christians into being like the world and thus hampering their usefulness for Christ (2 Cor. 11:14-15). Contemporary Christian Music and even “watered down” CCM is associated directly with the world and the glorification of man (i.e., the composer and artists), and is therefore in direct contradiction with God’s standards (Example: The music used in worship of the golden calf, which counterfeited true worship [Ex. 32:18]). God does not accept this kind of worship and even judges it because it desecrates God’s holiness in the sight of the world (Ex. 32).
Every Christian is commanded to walk in the Spirit (Eph. 5:18), and therefore he must be very careful not to accept music that is primarily sensual (appealing to the body) or soulish (appealing to the emotions) (Js. 3:15-16). Music should be evaluated on the spiritual nature of the music, words, composer, accompaniment, and performance (Rom. 12:2). If music does not meet the biblical standards of being separated from the world, honoring to Christ, and declaring Biblical truth, then it should not be used in either the ministry or the personal life of the believer (Eph. 5:18-19; Col. 3:16-17).
Hymnal: Great Hymns of the Faith
Choir and Specials: Traditional, conservative arrangements of hymns and spiritual songs. We specifically avoid music that either reflects the style of, or has been modified down from popular Sovereign Grace, CCM, or clearly worldly songs.
