Evangelist Bud Lyles
Dr. Bud Lyles, Staff Evangelist at Fellowship Baptist Church, was saved and called to preach on Sunday, April 30, 1944 at Calvary Baptist Church in Binghamton, NY. After graduating from North High School in Binghamton he enlisted in the U.S. Navy V-5 program. After he was discharged from the Navy following WWII, he worked secular jobs until he enrolled at Bob Jones University through the G.I. bill.
While at BJU, he worked at the WMUU radio station as an announcer and character actor. He also was elected Vice President of the Student Body and President of his Literary Society. During this time, he ministered on a traveling vocal quartet through which God worked to see over three hundred people saved! After he graduated, Brother Lyles served as Christian Service Director for Northeastern Bible College, and eventually joined the staff of Sword of the Lord, where he traveled with Dr. John R. Rice and Dr. Bill Rice and assisted with the music in their services. He also wrote for a number of years for the Sword of the Lord and assisted in the national radio broadcast for that ministry.
In 1959, Brother Lyles held his first revival services and continued preaching until he entered semi-retirement in 2013. Along the way, he acted as Staff Evangelist for Bob Jones University for eleven years, was given a Doctor of Divinity degree, and preached anywhere the Lord opened the door.
Dr. Lyles married Dottie Watson after graduating from BJU, and has been happily married for over sixty years. Dottie taught school for twenty-five years and helped to train their five children, seventeen grandchildren, and now twenty-four great grandchildren. He and his wife joined Fellowship Baptist Church in 1988 where he now serves as Senior Staff Evangelist.
